What is green steel?

Let's start with the most obvious question: what is green steel? There is not yet a comprehensive definition within the steel industry for green steel. What is clear is that it is much less environmentally damaging than "ordinary" steel. At KS Systems, we make every effort to make green steel as CO₂-free as possible.

In addition to purchasing sustainably produced steel from our suppliers, we also ensure that CO₂ emissions throughout our entire chain are as low as possible. The transport of the steel is electric, our machines run on green electricity and within our organization we work as sustainably as possible. We are therefore in the process of auditing for our ISO14001 sustainability certification.

Is green steel from KS Systems completely CO2-neutral?

There is currently no steel available that is 100% CO2-neutral. However, you can come to us for steel where you can save up to 82% CO₂. On an order of 24T steel, this means as much as a savings of 50T CO₂!

We make every effort to make steel as CO2 free as possible. This means that we not only buy green steel, but also strive to keep emissions as low as possible throughout the chain.

What about the delivery time of green steel?

Good news on that front: we deliver green steel with a delivery time of 4 to 6 weeks, just like regular steel. If the steel is in stock, we deliver within 1 business day.

What assurance in terms of CO2 savings do I have when ordering green steel?

Delivery of our green steel comes with an official certificate that proves that you save up to 82% CO₂. This certificate is approved by DNV and is in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.

Is there a quality difference between green steel and ordinary steel?

All our grades of steel are also available with green steel certificates. The quality is high and meets the mechanical properties imposed by Europe. The only difference is that you emit up to 82% less CO2, thus contributing to a sustainable future.

Is green steel more expensive than regular steel?

We can be brief about that: yes. But green steel is not specifically about price, but rather the impact it has on sustainability.

If you or your client have CO₂-saving goals, or your client has quota requirements (for example, in the construction industry), then green steel is a competitive product with which you can gain an advantage over your competition.
